Laser Facial Rejuvenation back to top

Laser facials are great for those with sun damaged skin. The condition is called "photo damage" and the most obvious signs are coarsening of the skin texture, irregular pigmentation, and enlarged blood vessels of the face and pores. The laser facial treatment will provide visible improvement of sun damaged skin through the use of a laser light to to remove enlarged blood vessels and irregular pigmentation. The laser goes below the skin surface to stimulate collagen production as well. However, most patients will need a series of treatments to see visible results.  Most of the time we are working with years of sun damage- it won't go away overnight.  This is a non-ablative treatment that works simultaneously to repair collagen in the dermis, or deepest layer of the skin, while gently erasing signs of aging on the top layer of the skin.  The laser selectively delivers amplified pulses of light to the dermis, which causes injury, followed by subsequent repair and stimulation of the collagen in the dermis. It does not visibly damage the epidermis, so there are no visible signs that the skin is being rejuvenated as what occurs with the traditional ablative type of lasers that have been used in the past. Also with no downtime the patient is able to resume the usual activities immediately. This same treatment can also be applied to the hands.  The hands are one of the most forgotten areas of treatment but clearly show our aging.  The laser principles of reducing the hyper-pigmented areas and stimulating the collagen production work greatly on the hands as well.

Laser Acne Treatment back to top

Acne is generally successfully treated with a variety of topical and oral medications. Inflammatory acne often requires the chronic use of antibiotics by mouth. Laser treatments can lead to a lesser amount of antibiotics required to control acne breakouts.  Laser treatment can not only improve the inflamed acne, but can also lead to improvement in the appearance of acne scars. The laser works to inhibit the growth of bacteria that is involved in acne lesions. The laser also helps to shrink the oil gland that plays a pivotal role in the acne outbreaks. Most patients require anywhere from 5-7 treatments 1 to 2 times per month before they will begin to see the desired improvement.  Periodic retreatments may be necessary during acne flare-ups. Laser treatments combined with Microdermabrasions performed by our aesthetician can offer even better results in controlling acne.  Many patients may need to continue on their oral medications but they may find they can control the acne with a lesser dose. Facial Peels back to top

Various chemical peels are available from the lesser aggressive type (lunchtime peel) that will lighten, “freshen” up, the appearance of the skin with little down time, to the more aggressive type of peels that will peel deeper and involve some “down” time.  Chemical peels can help with blemishes, acne scars, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation and sun damage.  If you want younger, healthier looking skin, chemical peels can do just that.  The procedure is designed to diminish imperfections by peeling away the skin's top layers.  It has proven to be a very popular non-surgical treatment.  Chemical peels vary according to their specific ingredients and their strength.  Depth of peeling action may also depend upon factors such as how long the peeling solution remains on the skin and whether they are lightly applied or more heavily or vigorously applied.

Skin Medica Vitalize Peel

The Vitalize Peel from Skin Medica brings the benefits of alpha-hydroxy acids to provide a strong, but gentle formulation. Dramatic results are achieved with a series of peels. The Vitalize Peel has been clinically proven to help pigmentation problems (such as age spots) fade and stimulate collagen production. The Vitalize Peel is safe and effective for all skin types.

Obagi Blue Peel

When it comes to your skin, there are many reasons to get the blues-blemishes, acne scars, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation and sun damage, to name a few. If you want younger, healthier looking skin, now there's a way to dramatically improve your complexion in just a day. It all starts with the Obagi Blue Peel. The Obagi Blue Peel is an in-office procedure designed to significantly improve the appearance and health of your skin. Using a low concentration of the chemical trichloroacetic acid (TCA) mixed with a special blue base to slow penetration, the Obagi Blue Peel allows your doctor to monitor the appropriate depth to effectively remove the thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin from the face or other parts of the body. These dead skin cells are replaced by healthier ones, allowing the skin's own clarity and tightness to resurface. The procedure is performed by your own doctor, who has specialized training and experience with this highly effective peel.

Microdermabrasion back to top

Microdermabrasion is a skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. The device used is like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation. What does the picture of a newborn baby bring to mind? Especially the skin of a newborn baby? Do words like fresh, smooth, young and soft fit the description? Wouldn't you love your skin to look fesher, smoother, softer and younger? Well the good news is that your skin can be revitalized and improved so that it does look softer, fresher, and more importantly, healthier. Medical Microdermabrasion can help restore some of the lost youth and vitality to your skin. Time inevitability takes its toll on your skin. Exposure to the elements causes it to become damaged and dull. Fortunately, there is a solution. Microdermabraion offers many benefits to people of all skin types….because few of us still have the skin we were born with. Make an appointment with our physician for a free consultation to see if you can benefit from Microdermabrasion treatments. You too can emerge with smoother, softer, brighter skin.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) back to top

The eyes are the windows to the soul, but they're also one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Even small imperfections such as wrinkles, loose skin, or “bags” under the eyes, can give an impression of being tired, weary, or unhappy. A blepharoplasty, or eyelid rejuvenation, can return youthful elegance to an individual's face, making the eyes appear brighter and more refreshed. During this procedure, excess skin and protruding pockets of fat are removed from the upper and/ or lower eyelids to reveal a rejuvenated look. Blepharoplasty can give your eyes a vibrant, alert, and refreshed appearance that will make you feel as good as you look.

How is blepharoplasty performed?

By removing puffy bags and correcting droopy eyelids, a blepharoplasty can provide a rejuvenated look. It may even help you see better. During an eyelid lift, your doctor will make a tiny incision along the natural lines of your eyelids and incision along the natural lines of your eyelids and remove excess fat, skin and muscle. The skin is then tightened to give a firm, smooth appearance, and then closed with fine sutures. Scars are nearly invisible as they blend into the natural lines around your eyes. A blepharoplasty typically is associated with only minimal discomfort. Your doctor will give you specific post-operative instructions that should be followed for best results. After your procedure, some swelling and bruising is expected, but typically most of it will diminish within two weeks. Many cosmetic surgery patients choose blepharoplasty because of the dramatically noticeable results.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty, or removal of excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid, is usually performed for cosmetic reasons, but can be considered medically necessary when the excess skin covers the eyelid or deflects the eyelashes downward affecting the visual field. In this procedure, the excess skin is removed along with appropriate amounts of fatty tissue to rejuvenate the upper eyelid appearance. The procedure is appropriate for both women and men.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty can correct drooping lower lids and puffy bags below the eyes to help patients look younger. Baggy or puffy lower eyelids are due to the protrusion of fatty compartments in the eyelids. Removal or rearrangement of this fat, along with a skin excision or laser resurfacing, gives a more rested and youthful appearance under the eyes. This technique gives a natural look to the rejuvenated eyelids with minimal to no charge in the lower eyelid position or contour.

Why should I consider Blepharolasty?

Many people who choose blepharoplasty want a subtle smoothing effect around their eyes. The rejuvenating effect of blepharoplasty is long lasting, and can give you a more youthful appearance. When considering blepharoplasty, ask yourself these questions: Do you appear tired? Is the skin of your upper eyelid overhanging the normal lid crease and nearing the eyelashes? Are there bulges and bags surrounding your eyes? Do your eyes appear smaller than they did in years past?

Is Blepharoplasty painful?

Although Blepharoplasty is associated with minimal discomfort and a short recovery period, most patients will experience some swelling and bruising for at least a few days to a week after the procedure. Following your doctor's post operative instructions is very beneficial in reducing the extent of the swelling and bruising.

Am I a good candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Good Blepharoplasty candidates include both healthy men and women who are realistic with their expectations. After your examination, your doctor will explain how eyelid surgery can help you achieve the look you desire. He will also explain the risks. Together you will decide which procedure is right for you and you will be on your way to a more rested and youthful appearance.
