Body Sculpting
The Body Sculpting treatment got its name because the physician is able to artistically sculpt the body into a new shape using delicate instruments. Employing the tumescent (meaning “to swell”) technique, the physician uses large volumes of special solution to fill and swell the fatty areas to be removed. The swelling solution contains local anesthetic, which completely numbs the area and eliminates the need for general anesthesia or heavy intravenous sedation. The solution also contains epinephrine which constricts the patient’s blood vessels, therefore bleeding is negligible during the procedure. To remove the fatty areas, the physician uses small cannulas (straw-like tubes) connected to a large bulb-type syringe. The cannulas allow for minimal scarring, very little bruising, and a less invasive procedure. The use of local anesthesia provides numerous benefits, most important being increased safety compared to use of general anesthesia. Additionally, the patient is able change positions during the procedure to give the physician greater accuracy, more control, and clear access to the target areas of the body.
